Let me just start off this blog post by letting you know that my skin tone resembles a white pot of paint, a snowflake or a white swan. I always buy the lightest shades of concealer and foundation to match my ever so snow-white-like complexion. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind being Snow White at all, in fact, she was my favourite Disney character when I was little. However, as summer is getting closer and skinny jeans simply feel like actual torture, it’s time to get them legs and arms out, and I’d rather not blind people with the sun beaming off of my pale skin. I’m never one to go out and just get a tan because I simply can’t sit still doing nothing, so I’ve resorted to fake tan for the first summer ever.
As I’m quite new to fake tanning, then if I can make a fake tan work, anyone can. The first tan I used was by Bondi Sands in the shade ‘Dark’ and I absolutely loved being tanned! I cannot even tell you how much more confidence it gave me! I would like to point out that there is absolutely nothing wrong with being pale, I just prefer looking a bit more tanned! Anyway, one day I received a package from Rimmel & Influenster, who had kindly sent me the Rimmel Sun Shimmer range of absolute dreams. The shades I was given were Light to Medium, which I was a bit ‘oooo I don’t know if they’re gonna work’ about, but let me tell you know, I was very wrong.
The first product I tried out from the range was the Sun Tan Mousse, which is a lightweight velvety mousse that develops in an hour and lasts for a whole week. Instead of letting it develop for an hour, I just left it on overnight like I would normally. When I woke up, well, it looked like I had been to Mykonos for a month, and I was loving it! The light shade was absolutely perfect. It looked like a very natural tan as there was no orangey-ness, which I love. The scent wasn’t as overpowering as with the other tan I had tried previously, which my partner was over the moon about as sleeping next to a person who smells like a pot of weird coconut wasn’t his dream come true. Also, my skin felt moisturised and had no streakiness! So this tan definitely gets a 9/10 from me. You can check it out for yourself at Superdrug!
Next, I tried the Instant Tan Matte, which is in a ultra-lightweight formula that instantly leaves the skin with a sun-kissed glow. So this thing you just pop on, and you’re instantly a glowing goddess. I used this when England blessed us with a random heatwave that I was very much not expecting. I wanted to wear a dress on the day but hadn’t tanned for a while so I popped this on my legs and arms instead! It was a very light tan but it actually looked really pretty! It is water resistant (which I tested out accidentally by having a water fight lol), and comes off right away with soap! It doesn’t transfer or rub off easily either, so if you need something quick, this is your product! This gets a 9/10 from me as the colour pay-off could be slightly better but it doesn’t smell like usual tanning products and worked amazingly! Get yours from Boots!
Last, but most definitely not least, I tried the Self Tan Lotion with Chia Oil. I had never even tried lotions before, so I wasn’t exactly sure what I was doing. I just popped the lotion on my tanning mitt and got to work. I left it on overnight again, and wow. I was left with the most gorgeous, moisturised and tanned skin. Also, to my surprise, it had absolute no fake tan smell. I honestly couldn’t rave about this product enough. If you’re going to try out a fake tan, let it be this one. My skin has never felt so nourished and glowing in my wholeeeeee life! My bedsheets aren’t stained, my skin isn’t dry and my boyfriend can actually sleep next to me without being suffocated by the weird coconut smell! It’s a win-win all around. This gets an 11/10 as I honestly don’t think it can get much better than this. I’ve had it on for 4 days now and I still haven’t returned to my pale self, so I’m very pleased! Get yours from Superdrug!
I hope this post helped your discover some drugstore fake tans that are actually pretty damn amazing! Let me know if you’ve tried any of these and which one your favourite is! If you haven’t tried these yet, which one would you like to get?
Be kind, be humble.
